How to Build Rapport With Prospects In Less Time

How to Build Rapport With Prospects In Less Time

Do you know how most people have a set criteria of ways to communicate with others? I’m sure you can relate! Usually we interact by using the same words, standing in the same positions, and conversing with the same subjects.

Why is this not effective when building rapport with new prospects?

That’s rather simple, everyone is different! We all process information differently, whether it be visual, auditory, or kinesthetic. If you’re not communicating with others in the same way THEY communicate then you’re actually breaking rapport and you’ll slowly lose the persons interest.

In order to build rapport fast with integrity we must first understand the importance of quickly accessing the others persons body language and language patterns. This is rather simple and will come natural with practice.

Here’s what I can share with you, professionals have trained themselves to mirror other people’s behavior when they first meet. This is how you build rapport quickly, and then you can raise others up to the level you would them to be.

Below you can see a few examples I gave in helping to build rapport and find out HOW your prospect actually processes information. This is KEY everyone!

Here are a few examples of ways to match language patterns:

  • Match the tone of voice your prospect is using
  • Find similar words to use
  • Speak at the same speed that your prospect is speaking

Here are a few examples of ways to match body language:

  • Match how the person is standing / sitting
  • If they have crossed arms, cross yours
  • If they are extremely visual (using their hand to speak, use yours)
  • If they are touchy feely (do the same..don’t get too close!)
  • You can even match facial expressions too

Once you start to feel comfortable with your prospect (and they feel comfortable with you), then you can begin to raise their vibration and really take the conversation to the next level! That is TRUE rapport building my friends!

When you practice these techniques and become excellent at this over time, I guarantee you’ll be building rapport FASTER and EASIER than ever before.

I’m curious, what are your thoughts on this topic? Looking forward to helping out with any questions or comments everyone!

I couldn’t agree more, Ryan! Matching a person’s energy is an excellent tool for rappore building, but it’s also an art! It takes some practice and some conscious work to do it in a way that is natural. Overdo it and a person will just be creeped out! :)

Communication styles and personality types are among my favorite topics, so thanks for sharing your insights and wisdom with us!

Good article! And as long as you don’t overdo the mimicking. I’ve found this to be especially important in direct sales, network marketing, because they automatically are on guard because of their own pre-conceived notions, and not necessarily about you or the company. So, doing whatever it takes to put them at ease and allow them to feel comfortable, is key to crossing that barrier.

    Ryan,

I’ve read that technique in several books, and it works! You don’t want to be obnoxious with it, but just pay attention to the ‘other person’ and really lock into their vibe.

    Cheers,

    Hey Janette,

    That’s a great point. It’s completely
about matching energy like Beth said.

Or else, yeah, it gets creepy! haha

But I think it’s powerful to resonate
with others at their energy level.

    Network Marketing is an interesting
    industry with many people having
    a “pre-concived” notion about peoples
    intentions….

    Thanks Janette!

    Hey Mike,

Exactly, it is a powerful technique.

Good to see you’ve gained the knowledge
    in this area. Congrats!

    Cheers Mike!

Yeah…what’s the “secret” to getting people to eliminate those “pre-conceived” notions, and hearing about these great opportunities?

    Hey Mike,

There are a lot of techniques that are extremely effective. What it really boils down to is your ability to connect with other people.

It’s relationship building skills combined with leadership skills.

When you understand people (and human behavior) you can have a better grasp on how to effectively communicate with others.

There are a few Network marketing books/ audios you may want to pick up. Try Tim Sales for NM, and John Maxwell for leadership. You will learn a LOT my friend!

What are these “techniques” ;) ?

I understand the relationship/leadership part, but it’s the actual physical body to have the opportunity first that’s my hurdle. I’m not going to just go up to some one and start presenting…LOL.

I keep seeing Tim Sales. Is he the real deal? I am on his list now.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Good stuff Ryan. I think the best (or worst) example of this I’ve ever seen of this is Hilary Clinton. I think she might be reading your blog posts Ryan. Although her execution needs some work I think.

It’s actually pretty laughable but thats not the point. The point here is that Hilary’s people obviously told her to adopt to this crowd that she was speaking to in the Southern United States. This goes to what you are saying here.

I think she needs some of your training’s Ryan!

    Nice Glenn,

That might be taking it too far! Man, she totally seems fake. That is terrible that she’d go to that extend.

You always find great material Glenn. I swear you have a knack for this stuff. lol
